Nicaraguan University Begins Solidarity Week with Cuba

The National Autonomous University of Nicaragua (UNAN) begins today in its capital headquarters a week of solidarity with Cuba, which will include the issue of the Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly held in the United States.

With the presentation of the documentary "Off the Court of Justice" and an exhibition about the case of the Cuban Five, as they are known internationally, will open the political-cultural program, which will run until June 14, a diplomatic source confirmed.

Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez were detained in September 1998, for monitoring Miami-based violent groups, whose actions left thousands of victims in Cuba, including more than 3,300 dead in the last 53 years, evidences state.

So far, only Rene Gonzalez could return to his country, so that several sectors in this Central American nation, included the university community, intensify the campaign to claim Washington's authorities and particularly U.S. President Barack Obama, the end of injustice, and the immediate release.
